Contemporary Furniture
Contemporary eco-friendly furniture. Now this is a very broad subject
and want to show that even business with overheads in mind understand
how important the environment is, especially when choosing furniture.
DESCRIBED as London's first genuine eco-friendly restaurant, Acorn
House has been built from organic and recycled materials, offering
a seasonal menu using locally sourced produce. So far, so right
on. On top of that, it's also a training restaurant (a charitable
venture run by both The Shoreditch Trust and Terrence Higgins Trust),
so we felt virtuous just booking a table.
Any fears we had of being force fed chickpea porridge in the company
of beardie, sandal-clad weirdies were instantly banished by this
sleek, dark-wood interior diner in up-and-coming King's Cross. Filled
with snazzy green designer furniture and snazzy designer diners,
it had a buzzy vibe that didn't make you feel guilty for wearing
leather shoes.
It's not even vegetarian - hurrah!
Our friendly (if eternally absent) waitress confided that the veggie
special "wasn't that special" - a description that also
pretty much summed up our starters. My rabbitty winter salad of
pheasant, pomegranate and dandelion (Pounds 8.50) was doubtless
good for me, but came over-doused in balsamic vinegar. My friend
pronounced her Dorset crab with grilled leeks (Pounds 9.50) "fresh,
but nothing to write home about".
